People waiting outside a walk-in vaccination site in East York despite a light rainfall. |
With the ramping up of vaccine supplies in recent days, now there is a hope that this pandemic can be brought under control within a month or two. Around 35% of the general population has received at least one dose so far. Data from the UK and Israel demonstrate that the rate of new infections starts to go down around the 50% mark. At 70 to 75%, we come close to achieving the much-coveted herd immunity. Both of these targets can be achieved by the end of May and June respectively if enough people are willing to get their shots.
For now, the progress seems promising as people are willing to wait in long queues braving the elements outside.
