In the bird kingdom, it is usually males who like to dress up in colorful attires while females normally prefer sober shades. Thus a male House Finch is easily recognizable by its reddish head, front, and shoulders. Although, this coloration varies with seasons and diet. The more carotenoid-rich berries they eat, the redder they become. This particular fellow seems to have loaded up enough berries during the season and is now ready to show off.
