Fort Rouillé

Fort Rouillé monument at Exhibition Place, Toronto.

Fort Rouillé was the last French post in southern Ontario. This small frontier post was built in 1751 and later destroyed by its own garrison in July 1759 following the seven-year war.  Later, a large boulder was placed here to mark this spot. That boulder is still there at the left side of the memorial obelisk but its inscription is almost gone. The obelisk was erected in 1887.
